Teton Radiology

The Teton Radiology Center is located in Rexburg Idaho and is declared to be one of the most energy efficient buildings in North America, as far as the HVAC system is concerned.

The building was completed in the spring of 2009. Mountain West Mechanical Inc. was the HVAC and plumbing contractor for this project, redesigning the original HVAC system to better serve the needs of the facility and saving nearly $150,000.00 in up front costs to the facility.

The HVAC system consists of four Daikin Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) III inverter heat recovery units.(Inverter Heat Recovery units allow for simultaneous cooling and heating from one system). Accompanying the VRV III units are five multi-split heat pumps which gives the facility added controls for specific mechanical rooms (MRI mechanical room and ct scan mechanical rooms) which require special temperature requirements.

The mechanical room which this equipment is stored in is equipped with adjustable louvers in the north and west walls. These louvers control the amount of fresh air needed to operate the heat pumps in normal weather conditions. In the coldest winter months the louvers can be closed and interior vents opened so the warm exhaust air from the VRV III units can be re-circulated within the mechanical room, thus reducing energy consumption.

The system is controlled by Daikin’s iTouch Controller.

This controller has several powerful functions:

  • Centralized control with 3 different view styles
  • Group and zone control capabilities
  • Weekly schedule with yearly calendar
  • Set-point range restriction
  • Temperature limit settings
  • Alarm E-mail which monitors and sends alerts of system issues or power outages
  • Web browser application which allows monitoring and adjustments via a web browser

Daikin’s VRV III system is the 7th generation of the original Daikin VRV® launched in 1982. Completely re-engineered to realize opportunities for VRV in taller / larger buildings, it utilizes the latest advances in refrigeration and air-conditioning technology. The totally new Daikin Inverter compressor system delivers improved efficiency and performance, while ensuring satisfaction of demands throughout connected zones across the complete operation cycle. With a choice of Heat Recovery 460V/3Ph/60Hz or 208-230V/3Ph/60Hz, the system configurations power up to 20-Ton capacity from a single piping network. The system also allows up to 41 indoor fan coil units, a 200% connection index, and integrated controls, with BMS options and piping limitations never before seen with a DX system. With these attributes, VRV III naturally positions itself wherever traditional chilled water systems are desired.

Daikin’s strong product line up (VRV, Skyair, Mini-split, Multi-split) can be installed in any project. Whether its your home or business, Mountain West Mechanical can make it happen.
