and the homeowners with an energy efficient heating and cooling system.
Daikin AC recently donated a VRV-S system to a deserving family selected to receive a newly constructed home that will be featured on the reality television show, “Extreme Makeover; Home Edition.”
The variable refrigerant volume heating and cooling system, donated by Daikin, consists of 2 outdoor units, VRV-S heat pumps and 4 ducted concealed ceiling units. The system will be controlled by 4 7-day programmable controllers.

“Daikin AC is proud to be a part of such a generous effort,”explained Christina Trondsen, Daikin AC’s director of marketing. “Daikin is dedicated to manufacturing products that are sustainable and energy efficient and we believe the deserving family will enjoy the absolute comfort as well as the lower costs associated with operating Daikin’s energy efficient products.”
The new home located in Geneva, New York, was built using sustainable products, including Daikin’s energy efficient heating and cooling systems. This residential project will aim for a LEED Gold certification. LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a rating system developed by the US Green Building Council that measures sustainable elements of a building. LEED has been around for many years for commercial construction projects, but is relatively new for residential construction projects. The rating system has four categories of certification: Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.

“The Daikin equipment is as efficient as a geothermal heat pump system but with better temperature and dehumidification control capability, “explained Ellis Guiles, P.E., HERS (Home Energy Rating System) rater and director of sales and marketing for TAG Mechanical. Guiles, who specified Daikin, knew to obtain the LEED certification they would need to incorporate an energy efficient heating and cooling system into the home.
“Daikin was an excellent choice for the project because it has excellent zoning capabilities and it is also less expensive to install than a geothermal system, “explained Guiles. “The flexibility of the product was also essential because the 3500 square foot home did not have many interior walls. The system was also very quick and easy to design and install which was very important since the entire home was built in just over 100 hours.”
Each episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition features a race against time involving a team of designers, contractors, and several hundred volunteers who have seven days to completely rebuild an entire house.

The Hill family was selected to receive a brand new home, enabling them to keep and improve their boxing gym for underprivileged teens. For over 10 years, Tim Hill has been training kids from the ages of 8 to 21 to box for free, and pays all expenses out of his pocket. Many of the kids are from broken and impoverished homes and Tim gives them a sense of pride and expert training that has made 3 Olympic hopefuls.
